Manual Lymphatic Drainage for Everyday Wellness: Who It's For
Not every client booking lymphatic drainage with me has had surgery — it's also one of my regular wellness treatments, for a completely different set of reasons.

Same technique, different context
The hand technique is the same gentle, rhythmic manual drainage I use with post-surgical clients — light strokes following the body's lymphatic pathways — just without the surgical context shaping the session. There's no incision to work around, no surgeon's plan dictating frequency, and no clearance needed to get started.
Who tends to book this
Clients come in for a few different reasons: a general feeling of heaviness or puffiness, wanting a slower, gentler alternative to a firmer massage, or simply building it into a regular self-care routine. It's also common around the time of the month for clients who find they feel more swollen than usual. None of this is a medical claim — it's simply why people say they book it.
What happens in the room
Every new client fills in the same short health questionnaire I use for every treatment, and sessions run at a slower, lighter pace than a typical massage — that's the nature of the technique, not a sign of anything being wrong. I work in English or Portuguese depending on what's more comfortable for you.
What people usually notice first
Most clients describe the session itself as more relaxing than they expected, given how "clinical" the name sounds — the pace is slow and the pressure light enough that some people find it easier to switch off than during a firmer massage. It's a genuinely different experience from Swedish massage or body sculpting, and worth trying once with an open mind rather than assuming it'll feel like either of those.
Not a one-off treatment
My view, consistent with how I talk about every treatment on the menu, is that lymphatic drainage works best as a regular part of your routine rather than a single visit here and there — though there's no fixed schedule I push on wellness clients specifically. Some come weekly, some monthly, some just before an event when they're feeling more swollen than usual; my suggestion is to start with a single session and see how your body responds before committing to a cadence, which is also why I don't lock anyone into a fixed programme up front. That's part of why the introductory packages exist — 5 sessions for £275 or 10 for £500 — alongside single 60-minute sessions at £60.
After a long-haul flight
One of the most common first-time bookings is after a long flight — swollen ankles and heavy legs from hours seated are exactly the kind of thing wellness clients mention wanting addressed. There's nothing to prepare beyond mentioning it at the health questionnaire; I'll focus the session on legs and feet if that's where you're feeling it most, rather than working the full-body sequence by default.
Combining it with a longer visit
If you'd rather have one longer appointment than book drainage separately, it's one of the three techniques inside the 90-minute Signature Body Treatment, alongside body sculpting and a relaxing finish. Otherwise, most clients keep it as its own 60-minute session and combine it with other treatments across separate visits rather than in the same hour.
Where and when to book
The studio is a private, one-to-one room inside Beauty Desire on Stockwell Green, open Wednesday 11am–7pm and Sunday 11am–4pm — no drop-ins, appointment only. I see clients from across Stockwell, Brixton, Clapham, Vauxhall and Oval.
If you've recently had surgery
If you're reading this after a recent cosmetic procedure rather than for general wellness, this isn't the page for you yet — head to Pre & Post-Operative Lymphatic Drainage instead, which covers the surgeon's-clearance process that applies to post-surgical clients specifically.
Full pricing and booking for the wellness version of the treatment is on the Manual Lymphatic Drainage for Wellness page. Some clients pair it with Swedish & Relaxing Massage across different visits.
Seeing the space first
The studio's Instagram, @ellastudiobeautyuk, is a good way to see the treatment room and get a sense of the technique before booking your first session.
